The narrow spectrum penicillin for the control of necrotic enteritis in poultry.

Phenoxypen WSP is indicated for the prevention of mortality at group level from necrotic enteritis in chickens caused by susceptible Clostridium perfringens strains.

Necrotic enteritis is a significant, underestimated problem in broiler chickens, causing inappetence, diarrhea, delayed growth and high mortality rate. A confluent necrosis is formed in the wall of the small intestine.

Phenoxypen WSP is a narrow spectrum and acid stable penicillin, containing 325 mg/g potassium phenoxymethylpenicillin. It dissolves well (the maximum solubility is 250 gram Phenoxypen per litre of drinking water) and is stable in drinking water. After supplying the medicated drinking water, Phenoxypen WSP is well absorbed and therapeutic plasma levels are reached within 2 hours.
The advised dosage is 46 – 68 mg Phenoxypen WSP per kg of body weight per day, corresponding with 13.5 – 20 mg penicillin V per kg of body weight per day, for 5 days.

The withdrawal time is 2 days.
(Not for use in chickens producing eggs for human consumption.)

Phenoxypen WSP is registered in 17 EU Member States. Dopharma is marketing authorization holder. After The Netherlands, marketing authorization is acknowledged via the Mutual Recognition Procedure for Austria*, Belgium, Czech Republic, Denmark (Phenoxylin), France*, Germany, Greece*, Hungary, Ireland*, Italy*, Lithuania, Poland, Portugal, Slovakia, Spain (Avipen), UK*.

* For distribution in these countries, Dopharma cooperates with Virbac. In the other countries, distribution takes place via local agents.
